About BDK Sports Foundation
BDK Sports Foundation was established in the year 1992 with a view to provide the right platform for budding cricketers to launch their careers and excel at various levels of the sport.
Since its inception, BDK Sports Foundation has put immense efforts in unearthing raw talent and has nurtured them to play at various levels of the sport. BDKSF has contributed mightily in the development of Cricket in the North Karnataka region. The work BDKSF has done at the grassroot level has been immense and has helped youth realise their dream of making it as a cricketer.
Right from the 90s till date, school kids from Hubballi- Dharwad who are a part of BDKSF, have a different aura about them. The values taught at BDKSF help these budding cricketers to carry themselves with dignity both on and off the field.
BDKSF has given the platform to many cricketers who hail from North Karnataka to excel at Ranji and International level. BDKSF has helped shape the futures of local stars who have been part of Ranji, IPL, other state level and national level teams.
BDKSF runs a Cricket academy with experienced coaches throughout the year for various age groups.
With tireless and selfless efforts from the working committee and the trustees of BDKSF, the citizens of Hubballi-Dharwad have the fortune of having the right infrastructure to nurture the young and raw talent.
History
The city of Hubballi is more famous for its commercial prowess rather than anything else. Yet being in the midst of the hustle and bustle of a commercial center, Hubballi also has the privilege of having a sports club by the name of BDK sports foundation which has provided a much needed launchpad for cricketers from the North Karnataka region.
BDK Sports Foundation was the brainchild of Shri Bharat Khimji and Shri Baba Bhusad. The roots can be traced back to the 70s where Mr.Bharat Khimji formed and mentored the then AKAY Industries Cricket Team. The team would participate in tournaments held across Karnataka. It was a powerful team of Karnataka of the yesteryears. Players like Bapu Patil, Pramod Kamat, Rajesh Kamat, Sunil Joshi owe some part of their cricketing success to BDKSF.
BDKSF formally became an institutional member (IM-204) of The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Bangalore in the year 1997. BDKSF has been active in promoting the welfare of Cricket in North Karnataka. It has been the elected member of Managing Committee of KSCA from 1998-2010 and again from 2013-present.
With the tireless & selfless efforts of Shri Baba Bhusad as Convenor and the support of KSCA, the citizens of Hubballi-Dharwad had the fortune of having a picturesque cricket stadium of international standards sitting pretty at the foot of Nrupatunga Hill, Hubballi. These efforts are also paying rich dividends as KSCA has come up with Cricket grounds in Belagavi and Gadag and is coming up in Karwar.
One of the most famous industrialist of Hubli-Dharwad, he is chiefly responsible for making Hubli a Valve manufacturing hub of India. Also being an ardent lover of cricket, he has been promoting cricket in Hubballi since 1970s. He along with Shri. Baba Bhusad were responsible for giving the much required impetus for promoting Cricket at grassroot level in North Karnataka.
A well known cricketer himself, he has used his administrative acumen and passion for the game to get a Cricket Ground of International Standards in Hubli-Dharwad. He joined hands with Shri. Bharat Khimji to promote cricket in this mofussil area of North Karnataka.
